About The Book

'Prayas' is the story of Nanded, a small city of Maharashtra. In this book, the author, who served as the Municipal Commissioner of Nanded, shares first-hand experiences and learnings towards making Nanded a clean and inclusive city. The making of a strong and motivated team, experiments in volunteerism, training of staff, engaging of subject-experts as partners, engagement of community towards making the city clean, involvement of people in constructing their own houses are some of the innovations described in the book. The city became the first city to try community approach for sanitation at the city-wide level. And, sanitation became a stepping stone for engaging citizens in other developmental pursuits.
